Sobu Capital is a founder‑led selector of private‑market opportunities for wholesale investors. We don’t run a platform or a fund. We select independently, with discipline, and with our own capital invested first.
Opportunities shared with our network are ones the founder has personally assessed and backed with family capital. Most opportunities never make it through the filter. Those that do are ones we have backed with our own capital.
We work with a small group of high‑net‑worth individuals and family offices who value depth over breadth, alignment over distribution, and a selector they can call rather than a marketplace to browse.
Sobu, short for Somaia Business, started as a personal investing practice for the broader family's capital. The network grew from there, as friends and peers came asking to follow specific decisions.
Sobu is based on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

Kej Somaia
Kej is the founder of Sobu Capital and the principal selector behind its co‑investment network. He is a former Co‑Head of Multi‑Asset Solutions at First Sentier Investors, where he co‑led a global team across Sydney, Singapore and London and served as Senior Portfolio Manager for over A$5 billion of multi‑asset funds and mandates spanning equities, bonds, currencies and commodities.
Since 2023, Kej has been investing the family's capital across Australian private credit, mid‑market private equity and selective venture, building a family portfolio of roughly twenty positions with fifteen managers, and a blended projected yield of around 9.4% per annum. The opportunities Sobu shares with its network are ones he has assessed and backed with family capital first.
Kej works with wholesale investors who value a disciplined selection process, genuine alignment, and a selector who invests alongside them. He also partners with private‑market managers building differentiated strategies grounded in substance rather than scale.
